The Conjuring . . . The Best Series in Horror?

The Conjuring Series . . . my horror movie loving friends, is there a better done series within this awesome genre? I have to ask that question because wow, James Wan has done it again. Now I know, I know, James Wan was not the director this time around as Michael Chaves was at the helm (and did a fantastic job I might add). However Mr. Wan was behind the story and a producer, and that is good enough for me!

Ok, so it may obviously obvious that I really enjoyed this continuation into the Conjuring Universe, but let me tell you why. Horror movies are a tightrope walked by many and survived by few. In my humble opinion you need several key components; A good story, interesting characters, and most importantly . . . don't show me too much!

I think that is why the Conjuring series had been so successful for me personally. The stories are fresh, and you are willing to follow Ed and Lorraine into the darkness without question. Does it help that they are based on real people who committed their lives to helping others under attack by the supernatural? Perhaps. However it is not a necessity in order to enjoy their characters. I assume that is largely due to the performances of both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. These two together have chemistry that pulls the audience in.

Alright, get to the point right? I know, I ramble. So, the Devil Made Me Do It, it falls right in line with the flow and speed of its predecessors. The Conjuring Formula in full effect. Ed and Lorraine find themselves pulled into another situation where they are giving it their all to save a family.

It starts with a BANG. You are pulled into the fire within the first three minutes. A small boy in a battle for his life as the demon takes over, the Warrens fighting for him, and away we go. Now, I'm not going to spoil anything here for you, or give you a play by. What I will tell you is that in this film we experience a darker side of people, and we witness a reenactment of the first time in US history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession.

That angle is really the premise behind this entire film. The Warrens on the hunt to find a way to defend a young man that put himself directly into the line of fire. Through this Ed and Lorraine navigate of maze of demon rituals, an elderly priest with a secret past, and again finding that they are strongest together.

It was a powerful ride, entertaining, and full of the scares we all want from a good horror flick. My only hope now is that the Conjuring series has not come to an end. More . . . more I say!

Well, how does this stack up Brian? I hear you asking that, and so I shall give it my rating of a 4 out of 5. I will also say that this film ranks number two out of the three Conjuring films specifically for me. The Conjuring 2 still remains at the top of the list, but the Devil Made Me Do It comes in at a close second place.

Now, get yourself a perfectly crafted cocktail, wait until it is plenty dark outside, dim the lights, prepare your eyes for body manipulation, and do yourself a favor . . . watch the Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. And might I suggest you have a quick look in your crawlspace before bed, I know I did.
