Two years after its first installment, It Chapter Two opened with a Blood boiling 180 million worldwide at the box office, making it the highest-grossing opening of a horror film ever. Returning for the second chapter, Director Andy Muschietti (director of the 2013 Horror film Mama).
This movie is filled with familiar faces, not only do the young actors return to continue their roles as the teen characters as flashbacks through the movie but we meet them 27 years later and the cast selection is genius. Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy start off the cast list, and all of them looking very much like older versions of the kids seamlessly continuing their personalities and quirks that we grew to love in It.
It’s been a long time since I read the book, many years, and for me, and my admittedly very short term memory, I can’t recall too much of the enormous book, but I do know there were a healthy amount of parts that were straight out of the novel, which always makes a book fan very happy. There were also nods to the original TV Series as well as nods to other King novels. All around for a King fan, I was quite satisfied.
Regarding the movie itself, LOVE LOVE LOVE. I (we) watch a lot of horror films and this one gave me creeps like Mrs. Kersh, for example, made my skin absolutely CRAWL with the body movements performed by Joan Gregson. Of course, Pennywise just as spine-chilling as the first installment, showing his many forms through the film, I feel Bill Skarsgard was made for this role!
Yet again, falling in love with the characters, you’re rooting for them all right to the end, in which fans of the TV series or the book know, isn’t a complete happy ending. What do you expect? It’s based on a Steven King book!
All and all, I’d say, grab your bag of Reeses Pieces, and go out and see the film or in just a few weeks, estimated digital release date is November 19th. Enjoy the scares!
